Garden of Dreams: A Tranquil Oasis in Kathmandu Guide
The Garden of Dreams, also known as Swapna Bagaicha, is a beautifully restored neo-classical garden in the heart of Kathmandu, Nepal. This serene oasis offers a peaceful escape from the bustling city streets, with its meticulously manicured lawns, vibrant flowerbeds, elegant pavilions, and tranquil ponds. It's a perfect place to relax, unwind, and enjoy a moment of tranquility. The Garden of Dreams was originally created in the 1920s by Kishore Narshingh, a field marshal, as a private garden. Inspired by Edwardian gardens, it featured six pavilions, each representing a different season. Over the years, the garden fell into disrepair. However, with the support of the Austrian government, it was meticulously restored and reopened to the public in 2007, preserving its original charm and beauty. Visitors to the Garden of Dreams can stroll through the beautifully landscaped grounds, admire the architecture, and relax in the peaceful atmosphere. You can find a quiet spot to read a book, enjoy a picnic, or simply soak in the beauty of the surroundings. The garden also features a cafe and restaurant where you can enjoy refreshments and meals. While the garden itself doesn't have a unique culinary tradition, the cafe offers a variety of international and Nepali dishes.
Transportation
The Garden of Dreams is centrally located in Kathmandu and easily accessible by taxi or rickshaw. You can also take a local bus to Ratna Park, which is a short walk from the garden. From Thamel, it's a pleasant walk of about 15-20 minutes.
